In a shocking turn of events, the FIA, Formula One racing’s governing body, announced that there will be no Canadian Grand Prix for the 2009 season.
The decision was made public via the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile’s release of its calendar for the 18-race, ’09 F1 World Championship.
The Canadian event had been a part of Formula One’s schedule since the late ’60s. Usually held in June, it will be replaced by the Turkish Grand Prix.
That means, that save for the Brazilian Grand Prix in November, there will be no F1 races in the Americas next year.
